English Literature Club

Welcome to our English Literature Club! We are a FREE Moscow-based club. Every week, we provide you with a short story in English and then discuss it the following Wednesday. We do not restrict ourselves to any particular genre. There are NO FORMAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS for attending the club meetings. However, having at least an intermediate level of English will make it easier for you to benefit from (and enjoy!) the discussions. All we recommend is that you read the story before the meeting. For your convenience, we always try to post soft copies of the story in three formats: DOCX, EPUB and PDF. We meet in the Svetlovka Library (near Mayakovskaya metro station) on Wednesday evenings at 18:45. Detailed information about upcoming meetings, including any changes to the time and the venue, are posted in this group as well as our Telegram chat and channel (links below) regularly. Please follow our announcements for the latest updates. Now, a few words about the format of a typical meeting. The first few minutes are generally devoted to a broad biographical look at the author, focusing especially on those aspects of his or her life that are relevant to the story. After this, one or more of the participants provide a short summary of the story containing its most important details; this is followed by the main discussion, which is usually led, and moderated, by a host. We always welcome story suggestions. If you have one in mind, you can use the "Story Suggestions" link on the main page here, write in our Telegram chat or approach one of the hosts after the discussion. Please note that we have certain story-selection criteria, which means we probably won’t be able to take each and every suggestion. We apologise for that in advance.
